Alpha Chi Sigma (AXS) is a national fraternity for both chemistry and non-chemistry majors. The Stanford Alpha Alpha Chapter was established in 1915 and refounded in 2012.
The Fraternity has three core objectives:
- To bind its members with a tie of true and lasting friendship.
- To strive for the advancement of chemistry both as a science and as a profession.
- To aid its members by every honorable means in the attainment of their ambitions as a chemist throughout their mortal lives.
To achieve these objectives, members are encouraged to attend local chapter meetings and join one of the organization's three sub-committees: Social, Outreach, and Professional Development.
AXS seeks to establish a strong community among undergraduates interested in chemistry by organizing social events including movie nights, dinners, and liquid nitrogen ice cream gatherings. It also seeks out opportunities to give back to the community by volunteering at homeless shelters and sharing their enthusiasm in the sciences with local elementary schools. By hosting industry panels, resume workshops and other networking opportunities with established chemists in academia and industry, AXS connects its members with other like-minded individuals and exposes them to a wide range of career opportunities.
Members of AXS are members for life!
