The HANA Immersive Visualization Environment (HIVE), our new visualization center built in partnership with the Army High Performance Computing Research Center (AHPCRC) and SAP, located in Huang 050, is open to all Stanford faculty, students and staff. The HIVE will allow collaborative visualization in teaching and research across the sciences, social sciences, and engineering Researchers will use multiple displays simultaneously to investigate various aspects of data collection, simulation, and visualization and to zoom in to see detail at previously unheard-of-levels.
The HIVE is a scientific visualization wall that is 10 feet tall, 24 feet wide with 13440X5400 resolution, aspect ratio of 112:45 or 2.49:1, and 72 million total active pixels. 35 46 inch ultra-narrow bezel backlit monitors in a 7 X 5 concaved configuration giving optimal visual stimuli for all research projects. The HIVE room has 16 individual inputs that allow 16 users to simultaneously connect to the HIVE. Controlling the wall are servers connected through fiber that consists of 3 main hardware platforms called Bravo, Charlie and Delta.
The HIVE now has a state of the art sound sound system that can be used for your audio presentations or teleconferencing. Privacy shades have also been installed so your presentation can be as private as needed.

Monitor Data
Bravo
The bravo is a windows 8 platform with 32gb of memory and 2TB of disk storage space. The video output is done using a single 4 output ATI Firepro V8800 GPU. These outputs go through our wall controller and can be scalled to display resolutions of 1920X1080 to 13440X5400. This system uses eyefinity to create one large working environment at 4K. The bravo is the perfect platform for video demonstrations, image manipulation, and presentations. The BRAVO supports all major codecs.

Charlie
The Charlie is a 3-host centos 7.1 cluster with multiple CPU’s and 160 GB of memory per server. Each server has 1.7 TB of storage space and contains 3. 4 output NVIDIA K5000. These cards are all synced together using NVIDIA iSYNC technology. The Charlie is a true 1:1 platform with 35 outputs of 1920X1080 going to all 35 monitors. This provides the perfect mechanism to render 2d and 3d data at the maximum resolution of the HIVE (13440X5400). The CHARLIE supports .jpg, .png, .tga, and .tiff for 2D type imaging and .ply, .stl, and .hive for 3D type imaging.
Delta
The Delta is a Apple Mac Pro running OSX 10.10 platform with 16Gb of ram and 1 Tb of storage space. The video output is done using a dual output D500 Firepro GPU. These outputs go through our wall controller and can be scalled to display resolutions of 1920X1080 to 13440X5400. This platform is good for a research meetings and classes.
Scheduling
To use the HIVE please complete the following actions:
- Select an open date by looking in the HIVE calendar (please search the term HIVE in the search box) CALENDAR
- Complete the following questionnaire (QUESTIONNAIRE). Please allow 1 to 2 days for response.
- Support is required to use the wall.
- Hive hour are from 8am to 4pm (this gives an hour for setup and an hour for clean up). Events need to be scheduled 48 hours prior.
Please contact Brian Tempero (btempero@stanford.edu) if you have any questions about the room.
