Annual FOIA Reports

The FOIA requires each federal agency to submit an Annual Report to the Attorney General each year. These reports contain detailed statistics on the numbers of requests received and processed by each agency, the time taken to respond, and the outcome of each request, as well as many other vital statistics regarding the administration of the FOIA at federal departments and agencies.

Chief FOIA Officer Reports

The Attorney General's 2009 FOIA Guidelines require the Chief FOIA Officer for each federal agency to submit a report to the Attorney General containing a detailed description of the steps taken by the agency to improve FOIA compliance and transparency. These reports contain details of FOIA administration at each agency, as well as the steps taken to implement the Attorney General's 2009 FOIA Guidelines during each reporting year.

Upcoming Chief FOIA Report Deadlines

1/19/2018 Agencies receiving more than 50 requests in Fiscal Year 2016 are required to submit their 2018 Chief FOIA Officer Reports to OIP for review and clearance
2/2/2018 Agencies receiving less than 50 requests in Fiscal Year 2016 are required to submit their 2018 Chief FOIA Officer Reports to OIP for review and clearance
3/12/2018 Agencies are required to post their 2018 Chief FOIA Officer Reports online

DOJ FOIA Litigation and Compliance Reports

The FOIA requires the Attorney General to submit a report to Congress each calendar year detailing the efforts of the Justice Department to encourage agency compliance with the FOIA. This report also includes lists of all FOIA litigation cases received and decided in that calendar year.
