To find topographic maps in Searchworks, it helps to know what scale you want. Are you going hiking in the USA? Then you’ll want the 7.5’ topo maps for your region, which cover 7.5 minutes of longitude, at a scale of 1:24,000. In Searchworks, enter “7.5 minute” plus the state name as title terms in Searchwork’s basic search box. The resulting record will display all the sheets in the set, arranged alphabetically by quadrangle name.

Branner Library is part of the U.S. federal depository library program (FDLP), so in addition USGS state maps in the 7.5 minute series, we also have many 15’ state maps, and also scales of 1:50,000, 1:100,000 and 1:250,000. Internationally, we try to collect all countries at the 1:250,000 scale. An extensive world set at 1:200,000 was produced by the Soviet military.
