Founded in 1919 by Herbert Hoover, the library and archives are among the world’s most important repositories for unique archival materials and rare publications on political, social, and economic change in the modern era.
Particularly strong are the holdings on Russia and the Soviet Union, Central and Eastern Europe, China, political and ideological movements, and the broadcast collections of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty and the Firing Line television program.

Access
The majority of collections are housed on site and are readily available. A small number are stored off site and require advance notice to access. Materials in the Archives do not circulate.
Accessibility
The Hoover Archives is accessible by a ramp from Crothers Way (between the Herbert Hoover Memorial Building and Green Library) and then an elevator at the entrance of HHMB. For assistance, please call (650) 723-3563.
Location
The Hoover Archives reading room is on the courtyard level of the Herbert Hoover Memorial Building (between Hoover Tower and Encina Hall). The entrance is above, on the first floor, facing the Lou Henry Hoover Building.
Transit and parking
Stanford Marguerite Shuttle: From the Palo Alto Train Station/Transit Center, take the Line Y (clockwise is fastest) or the Line X shuttle to the corner of Serra and Galvez.
Parking: The day-use parking lot on Galvez Street at Campus Drive accepts currency, coins, and credit cards.
