John's role in the library
I select and acquire materials to enhance and enlarge the Rare Books collections of the Stanford University Libraries. I collect across many academic areas, attentive to the needs of our various faculty and academic programs. I offer reference help, to assist in researching and interpreting our collections. I work closely and extensively with faculty and students in class sessions and research projects. I work with students and faculty in the fields of bibliography, subject bibliography as well as analytical bibliography, the branch of bibliography that examines the physical features of a printed book or manuscript. I work with rare book dealers to maintain a fine working realtionship with the trade. I perform a lot of outreach to donors.
