While it is possible to chemically scrub carbon dioxide from Earth's atmosphere to lessen global warming, the process is prohibitively expensive. ERE Professor Jennifer Wilcox concludes that air-capture of carbon dioxide with chemicals will be far in the future.

Geothermal Program Students Receive "GRC Best Presentation Award"

ERE's Geothermal Program students Yuran Zhang and Timothy Manley have been awarded the GRC Best Presentation Award at the 2015 GRC Annual Meeting & GEA Geothermal Energy Expo in Reno, Nevada. This award is in recognition of quality of content and presentation at the Reservoir Engineering/Modeling 2 session. Yuran Zhang presented "DNA-Encapsulated Silica Nanoparticle Tracers for Fracture Characterization".
