Just to remind you, for the remainder of this quarter, we will have a limited menu and limited operating hours. Beginning in January, we will roll out the full menu and daily operational hours.

What food will be offered during the introductory opening?

Residential & Dining Enterprises’ (R&DE) Stanford Hospitality & Auxiliaries (SHA) will open SLACafé with a limited menu featuring the full salad bar, a daily grilled sandwich, soups and a wider variety of Grab 'n' Go items. We are excited to bring you a full menu with a variety of choices in January.

Will there be breakfast in the SLACafé?

In January, 2016, when we reopen after the holiday break, the entire new menu will be offered included breakfast from 6:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. and lunch from 11:00 a.m.- 2:30 p.m.

Will SLAC Community members be able to buy meal plans?

Yes! R&DE will be offering two types of meal plans for the SLAC Community. A daily special will be available for those who prefer a chef’s choice hot meal and a soft drink. In addition, a more flexible meal plan will be offered for those who want more options! Please refer to the meal plan section of the website. Meal plans will be sold beginning in December for use beginning in January, 2016.

How will the new SLACafé be different from Harvest Café?

Based on feedback from the customer survey conducted at SLAC, the new SLACafé will include more Grab 'n' Go items, tempting grilled sandwiches, a soup and salad bar and tasty new sides. In January, SLACafé will also offer wholesome hot comfort foods sold by weight. The menu, the facility, the equipment and the service are all designed with the SLAC community in mind!

How can staff provide input and give feedback?

The new SLACafé website https://rde.stanford.edu/hospitality/slac-cafe-0 will offer lots of information and a customer feedback form. Suggestions, observations and comments are all welcome. The SLACafé General Manager, Ahmed Laylani, will follow up with you regarding your suggestions and concerns.

Will credit cards be accepted?

Absolutely! The SLACafé will be using the Revel point of sale system which makes cashless sales the most efficient way to pay for your meals. You may elect to pay in cash, but paying with meal plans, credit cards and even Apple Pay are the fastest ways.

Will there be added benefits for those who eat there more often?

Again, YES! The new Revel point of sale program will provide our customers with many ways to enjoy their meals. In the future, look for self-order kiosks in the café and the R&DEFoodToGo app that will allow you order from anywhere, choose your pickup time and pay for it all on your timeline. Meal plan holders will also be awarded “pop-up” rewards and specials via emails and the website.

In the new SLACafé, will there be a charge for take-out containers?

No. Stanford Hospitality & Auxiliaries does not charge for take-out containers. In keeping with the university’s commitment to sustainability, R&DE SHA uses completely compostable containers and utensils.

Will the menu include healthy food options?

Yes. Stanford Hospitality & Auxiliaries will include both vegetarian and vegan items along with lean proteins and healthy, salad bar ingredients. In addition, our chefs use the freshest local ingredients available. While you can certainly enjoy an occasional indulgence, you can be assured there will always be healthy diet choices at SLACafé.

Will SLAC/Guest House Starbucks remain open or change in any way?

The opening of the SLACafé will not change Starbucks' offerings or service. Starbucks will continue to offer its seasonal favorites along with their large menu of latte’s, cappuccino’s, Americano’s and Frappes! They will also continue to serve their famous brewed coffee, pastries and sandwiches.

What coffee service will be available in the new SLACafé?

We will proudly brew your favorite Starbucks coffee – both regular and decaf. For that extra special coffee indulgence, feel free to visit the Starbucks store at the Stanford Guest House.
