General Certification of Education 'A' Levels, French Baccalaureate, and German Abitur

International advanced placement examinations such as General Certificate of Education 'A' levels, French Baccalaureate, and German Abitur may be awarded a maximum of 10 units per discipline for some of the subjects which receive College Board AP credit. Students may not receive duplicate unit credit for AP, IB, or other international exams (listed below) in the same discipline, and the duplicating unit credit may be removed from the student's record.

To request this test credit evaluation, bring the original certificate to the Student Services Center, 2nd Floor, Tresidder Union. If you have already submitted your original certificate to Stanford, submit a Student Service Center Help Ticket to request the test credit evaluation.

In order to be eligible to receive credit for the A-Level GCE exams, all of the following must apply:

  • Only British Advanced Level (A-Level) and Singapore Advanced Level (A-Level) exams are eligible to receive credit. A-Level exams from countries outside of the United Kingdom and Singapore are not accepted at Stanford.

  • Must have received a grade of A, B, C, or D.

  • The official "General Certificate of Education" must be submitted. Stanford does not accept the "Candidate's Statement of Results."

  • Only subjects that receive College Board AP credit are eligible to receive credit.

International Advanced Placement Examination Charts 2017-18


Caribbean Advanced Placement Exam (CAPE)

Scores/grades ranging from 1 through 3 are accepted for credit, except Mathematics which requires a score of 1 in order to receive credit.

General Certification of Education 'A' Levels

A Levels are given in England and other countries with a British educatonal system. Only A Level exams are elgible, not A-S Level. General Certificate of Secondary Education does not receive credit. Students must score between an A through D; all other scores are not elgibile for credit. Students must submit official exam results; copies are not accepted.

German Abitur

The German Abitur uses a 3 point scale, therefore students must receive a score ranging from 1-3 in order to receive credit. Be advised that units do range based upon the score received.
