Transformation Scholarship
The Transformation Scholarship Program was established in the Fall
of 2004 to provide financial support for Stanford Health Care (SHC)
employees to develop skills in critical career areas. A yearly stipend
of up to $5,000 can be utilized for tuition, fees and books on a
reimbursement basis. The Transformation Scholarship Program is in
addition to any other Education Assistance benefit that the employee
is entitled to. Award recipients are eligible to receive up to $15,000
over the course of three years.
Awardees of the Transformation Scholarship Program have gone on to
earn graduate degrees, certificates in specific areas of study, grow
their careers and have a positive impact on the practice of nursing at SHC.
If you have been awarded a Transformation Scholarship and are
seeking reimbursement, please complete the Transformation Scholarship Reimbursement Form.
Transformation scholarship awardees' stories
"The Transformation Scholarship provided me the opportunity to
truly transform my life. After working in the trauma ICU for many
years, I was able to go back to school and complete an MSN degree.
During my MSN Clinical experiences I found I really enjoyed working
with the Nursing Quality Department and I have recently accepted a
permanent position as a Nursing Quality Manager. The scholarship
provided the support from Nursing Administration to help me achieve
my lifelong goals of higher education. With the full support and
encouragement of my nursing leaders I am continuing on for a
Doctorate of Nursing Practice next week…it just keeps getting better!"
-Anita Girard, MSN, RN, CCRN, CNL
"It has been a dream of mine to further my nursing education
and be the first one in my family to be able to obtain a master's
degree. Learning that Stanford Hospital was offering a
Transformation Scholarship to further my education gave me the extra
incentive and drive to pursue my dream. Although committing to
further my education has been demanding, I have learned so much
through my courses and feel empowered to use the knowledge that I
have gained towards impacting my nursing practice."
-Jean-Yee Yu, BSN, RN, PHN
"As the Clinical Educator for Unit C1, the Ambulatory
Treatment Infusion Center, and the PICC program it was both a
personal and professional goal to obtain my BSN. I graduated from
the University of Phoenix online program with honors in November
2012 and the Transformation Scholarship was instrumental to this
accomplishment paying for the majority of the program. Each BSN
course and the Clinical Educator role had a symbiotic relationship.
Knowledge taken from my courses was directly applied to my practice
and my educational topics for dissemination to staff and patients.
Conversely, unit specific and patient population specific topics
were taken back to classes for further discussion and application of
applied learning concepts and theories. A win/win situation!"
-Emily Hamvay Robins, RN
"The cost of going back to school was a major determinant in
the decision for me. With the beneficial opportunity of the
Transformation Scholarship, there were no more excuses. It was still
daunting but has already paid off in so many ways.
My horizons have been greatly broadened from my experience in
Shared Governance and working with Nursing Quality during an
unfortunate stint of light duty. My classes have helped deepen these
experiences for me and given me a different perspective. I have been
able to make greater contributions. We all know continuing our
education will change our practice at the bedside but it also does
so much more.
While it is challenging, it is also invigorating. I have regained
the enthusiasm I had as a new graduate nurse 15 years ago."
-Denise Bramlitt, RN
