Interventional Cardiology

Interventional cardiology refers to diagnostics and non-surgical treatments of the heart. Cardiac interventions are used to diagnosis and treat many types of heart disease. Stanford interventional cardiology is a world leader in percutaneous coronary revascularization, which re-establishes blood flow to the heart when its vessels have been damaged or blocked.

At Stanford, you can expect:

• Leading-edge interventional cardiology diagnostic procedures such as fractional flow reserve measurement, optical coherence tomography, and identifying causes for chest pain in patients with normal appearing coronary arteries
• Minimally invasive interventional cardiology techniques such as renal denervation therapy and Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR), a new, less invasive method for replacing diseased aortic valves
• Interventional biotherapies that promote blood vessel growth and stem cell therapy to improve heart muscle function and reduce angina (chest pain)

In addition, Stanford Cardiovascular Health offers state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization using low-radiation, high-resolution digital equipment that maximizes both patient safety and image quality.

Stanford's three cath labs perform more than 4,000 procedures annually, roughly half on an outpatient basis. Our fourth and fifth laboratories are dedicated to cardiac electrophysiology.
