Also worth noting: President Trump hasn’t attended a COVID task force meeting in months. Pence has chaired two at the White House in the last four weeks. The president is scheduled to be briefed on Operation Warp Speed today. He has yet to acknowledge the record spikes in cases.

The past week has epitomized the entire Trump presidency. The chaos. The misinformation. The inability to come to grips with reality. The lack of president-ing during a health crisis. And a party -- with few exceptions -- that refuses to buck Trump

Electoral maps aren't forever. In 2004, Bush won CO by 4pts and VA by 8pts, while OH was decided by just 100K votes. In 2020, Biden won CO by 13pts, VA by 10pts, and Trump once again won OH by 8pts

Set aside the election misinformation for a moment. Does no Republican want to gently suggest "Maybe you should do something about this?" Is there any pressure whatsoever to hold high-profile events with WH Task Force to advise Americans facing a deadly worsening pandemic?

I once asked a political scientist whether there was a litmus test for democracy, and they said yes: the power of elections to remove incumbents. If that’s gone, it’s not a democracy. It’s just not.

In 2016, Trump won MI/PA/WI by 77K votes, got 306 EVs and received a concession speech from Clinton + WH meeting from Obama In 2020, Biden won same states by 214K+ votes, is on track for same 306 EVs and most of GOP is refusing to recognize outcome

How Biden won: He re-ran the 2016 map and campaign, but just better -- in the big cities, in the urban suburbs and among independents. And unlike in 2016, the 3rd party vote helped him, not Trump. :

There are huge election stories right now, but I do think we need to demand a Take Audit later this month when we have final counts in which everyone has to ask "Would I have written this if everything was called on Tuesday night at the same time"

So many of ways we cover and practice politics are relics of the 20th century -- the IA caucuses, the primary calendar, the exit polls, the debate commission and, yes, the horserace polls. But we don't live in the 20th century anymore. :
