BlueJeans Video Conferencing Available at No Charge

Wednesday, October 1, 2014

University IT is delighted to announce a new enterprise-wide audio and video conferencing service — BlueJeans!

BlueJeans lets you host high-quality audio or video conferences with up to 100 participants. It is designed to seamlessly connect those participants regardless of the device they are using, from a telephone to a mobile device to a computer to a full video conferencing room system. When you include video, you can display a single person's video or multiple participants' video, transmit your computer screen, collaborate on documents, and group message with other participants.

Stanford faculty, staff, and students are eligible to set up BlueJeans conferences but the participants joining your conferences do not need to be Stanford affiliates or have a BlueJeans account. You'll simply log in to the service using your SUNet ID to schedule and start meetings. Participants will connect via a simple, secure process.

As an audio and video conferencing service, BlueJeans can replace services such as Premiere Global, WebEx, and Adobe Connect.  Because the service is being provided by University IT as an enhancement to its Converged Communications service, it is available to the campus community at no charge. (Current Stanford WebEx users should note that Stanford will retire its WebEx campus license effective December 5th.  While you can still contract with WebEx directly, it will be more expensive and you should consider the BlueJeans alternative, available at no charge.)

To get more information about the new BlueJeans service at Stanford and to see a current training schedule, visit our BlueJeans web page.  You can start using BlueJeans from that page or by going directly to stanford.bluejeans.com.
