EPA Grant Competition Forecast for Calendar Year 2015

EPA is committed to making it easier for communities to access our grant resources. Here is the calendar of expected 2015 competitive grant opportunities that may be of particular interest to communities. We will update this information periodically as needed.

  • These opportunities, as well as other EPA grant opportunities, will be posted on Grants.gov.
  • In addition, we offer a Grants 101 Tutorial to assist communities in understanding the grants process.

REGION 5 - Food Waste Prevention or Reduction in Schools

Description: Projects should involve identifying the most significant sources of food wastes in public schools and key barriers to preventing or reducing the food waste, recommending strategies or innovative approaches for addressing the barriers and evaluating or demonstrating at least one of the recommended strategies or approaches in at least one public school.

Tribal Training and Outreach Support for the American Indian Air Quality Training Program

Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) number for the competition: 66.037

Description: To provide tribal training, technical and outreach support for the American Indian Air Quality Training Program. The American Indian Air Quality Training Program (AIAQTP) provides workshop training, internships and technical support to tribal governments seeking to investigate, develop and establish air quality management programs for lands under their jurisdiction and provides opportunity for American Indian students to pursue environmental careers in the field of air quality management.

Source Reduction Assistance (SRA) Grant Program

Description: SRA awards support pollution prevention through source reduction and resource conservation work. Applicants must demonstrate new or innovative techniques for education or training to promote pollution prevention and source reduction efforts.

Support for the Five Star Restoration Training Grant

Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) number for the competition: 66.462

Description: The applicant under this Request for Proposal (RFP) will solicit, award and administer challenge subgrants of between $20,000 and $50,000 to schools, local governments, youth corps, conservation organizations and others through the Five Star Restoration Training Grant Program. These subgrants will provide financial assistance to support community-based wetlands and riparian restoration projects that educate and train local citizens, build diverse partnerships, foster local natural resource stewardship and provide other socio-economic benefits. The Five Star Restoration Training Grant Program is an innovative, competitive program to promote environmental education and training through community-based wetlands, riparian corridor and coastal habitat restoration projects. This program will greatly benefit communities nationwide.

Healthy Communities Grant Program

Indoor Air Quality Public Service Advertising Campaign

Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) number for the competition: 66.043

Description: The goal of EPA’s Indoor Environments Program is to reduce the environmental health risks posed by contaminants in indoor environments. This is achieved first through the use of sound science to gain a better understanding of environmental health risks as well as effective prevention and control methods. This knowledge is then used to promote appropriate environmental risk reduction activities through voluntary actions by the general public and key stakeholders to improve indoor air quality.

Clean Diesel Funding Assistance Programs FY2015

Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) number for the competition: 66.039

Description: EPA’s Office of Transportation and Air Quality is soliciting proposals nationwide for projects that achieve significant reductions in diesel emissions in terms of tons of pollution produced by diesel engines and diesel emissions exposure, particularly from fleets operating at or servicing goods movement facilities located in areas designated as having poor air quality. Further, priority for funding may be given to projects which result in outcomes that benefit affected communities, those that engage local communities with respect to the design and performance of the project, and those which can demonstrate the ability to promote and continue efforts to reduce emissions after the project has ended.

Urban Waters Small Grants

Description: The Urban Waters Program seeks to help communities, especially underserved communities, connect to their waterways and engage in restoration to improve water quality and, at the same time, revitalize their neighborhoods. The goal of the Urban Waters Small Grants (UWSG) program is to fund:

  • research
  • investigations
  • experiments
  • training
  • surveys
  • studies and
  • demonstrations
that will advance the restoration of urban waters by improving water quality through community-driven activities that also support local priorities.  This program recognizes that healthy and accessible urban waters can help grow local businesses and enhance educational, recreational, social and employment opportunities in nearby communities.

Environmental Justice Collaborative Problem-Solving Cooperative Agreement Program

Description: The Environmental Justice Collaborative Problem-Solving (EJCPS) Cooperative Agreement Program provides funding for eligible applicants for projects that address local environmental and/or public health issues within an affected community.  The EJCPS Program is designed to help communities understand and address exposure to multiple environmental harms and risks.

Brownfields Training, Research and Technical Assistance Grants

Description: Grant funds awarded to eligible entities to provide research, training and technical assistance to communities facing brownfields cleanup and revitalization challenges.  Expected focus areas of this announcement include: 1) technical assistance to environmental workforce development and job training grantees, 2) technical assistance on the integration of environmental justice and equitable development for brownfields-impacted communities, 3) research on the benefits of brownfields redevelopment, and 4) technical assistance on brownfields financing and economic development strategies to brownfields-impacted communities.

Environmental Education Model and Sub-Grant Program

Environmental Workforce Development and Job Training Grants Program

Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) number for the competition: 66.815

Description: Environmental Workforce Development and Job Training grants, competed on annual basis, allow nonprofit organizations and eligible governmental entities the ability to recruit, train and place unemployed and under-employed, including low-income and minority, residents of solid and hazardous waste-affected communities. Individuals recruited by grantees into these training programs have the opportunity to gain skills and certifications needed to secure full-time, sustainable employment in the environmental field. Applicants develop their own training curricula that could include training in:

  • brownfields assessment and cleanup
  • Superfund cleanup
  • leaking underground storage tank removal
  • wastewater treatment
  • emergency response
  • oil spill cleanup
  • chemical safety
  • renewable energy installation
  • integrated pest management,
  • other environmental skills.
