The Oswego River harbor area and the lower segment of the Oswego River up to the Varick power dam was designated as an Area of Concern under the 1987 Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement. On July 21, 2006, EPA announced that the Oswego River had been removed from the binational list of AOCs.
