Sheboygan River Area of Concern

Sheboygan River is one of 43 contaminated sites designated as an Area of Concern under the 1987 Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement. Over $80 million has been spent to dredge contaminated sediment and restore habitat in the AOC. The cleanup work was funded largely through the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative and by responsible parties through the EPA Superfund program. As of January 2013, all major management actions needed to delist the AOC have been completed.
