The trustees guide the Institute towards its primary purpose and objective – the promotion of human knowledge within the field of the basic sciences and the effective application thereof for the benefit of mankind. The trustees meet four times a year.
HHMI’s senior executive team manages the Institute's daily operations and oversees strategies for meeting its long-term objectives.
The Medical Advisory Board (MAB) comprises distinguished scientists and leaders of biomedical research institutions who constitute the principal advisory group for the scientific programs of the Institute.
The Scientific Review Board (SRB) comprises distinguished scientists who participate in the review of Institute investigators for reappointment. They work with the Medical Advisory Board in this capacity.
Science Education Advisory Board
The Science Education Advisory Board (SEAB) is composed of leaders representing a range of higher educational perspectives and experiences. Members include scientists with strong interests in both scientific training and teaching at many levels in the educational continuum.
The scientific officers serve as liaisons to their assigned host institutions – the universities and research centers in the United States where HHMI researchers are based – regarding scientific and administrative matters.
