Undergraduate Admissions

Applying

Prospective undergraduates interested in studying Aeronautics and Astronautics at Stanford must apply to the university through the Stanford Undergraduate Admissions Office, not directly to the Aeronautics and Astronautics Department.

All entering undergraduate students, whether freshmen or transfer students, enter Stanford with their majors undeclared. They are admitted to the university as a whole, rather than to a specific school or department. Students interested in undergraduate admission and study at Stanford should visit two helpful sites:

Completion of the undergraduate program in Aeronautics and Astronautics leads to the conferral of the Bachelor of Science in Engineering. The subplan "Aeronautics and Astronautics" appears on the transcript and on the diploma.

The program emphasizes structural, aerodynamic, propulsion, and guidance and control problems of aircraft and spacecraft. Undergraduates and doctoral students in other departments may also elect a minor in Aeronautics and Astronautics.

Current Stanford undergraduates

Undergraduates may elect an undergraduate major in Engineering with a concentration in Aero/Astro or a minor in Aero/Astro. See Undergraduate Program for details. Freshmen and sophomores are welcome to visit our Aero/Astro Student Services Office to discuss the possibilities for future involvement in our programs. Students may also want to refer to the School of Engineering's Handbook for Undergraduate Engineering Programs.

Coterm

Undergraduates can apply to our master's program as coterminal students and begin graduate work before finishing their bachelor's degree. Look at our website under coterminal degrees. More information and procedures for coterminal applicants is available at the University Registrar's website and the Aero/Astro Student Services Office.
