How do I get an Alumni Email account?

To get an Alumni Email account, you must register for the Alumni Association website and be a Stanford alumnus with three quarters-plus status. Check the box and you will be able to access your own Alumni Email powered by Google account immediately.

How do I switch from an @stanfordalumni.org to an @alumni.stanford.edu address?

If you would rather have a ".edu" email address instead of a ".org" address, go to the @alumni.stanford.edu page on this website. Alternatively, go to the Alumni Email tab in your Profile on the Stanford Alumni website.

A couple of things to know if you decide to switch to an @alumni.stanford.edu address:
  1. This changes how your email address appears in your Alumni Profile
  2. You will still be able to receive email sent to @stanfordalumni.org (replies will be sent from @alumni.stanford.edu unless you change "Send mail as" located in Google Settings, the Accounts tab)
  3. You will need to update your email address where it appears (e.g. your Stanford profile, resume, business cards, websites)
  4. Once you make the switch to @alumni.stanford.edu, the change cannot be undone.

I have an @stanfordalumni.org email address. Why does the email address in the right corner of my mail screen say username@alumni.stanford.edu?

The short answer: don't worry about it. Your Alumni Email is set up for whichever address you use; the address in the right corner isn't important (but it is confusing!).
The longer answer: @alumni.stanford.edu is the Stanford Alumni Association's primary domain and was used to set up Google. Because it is the primary domain, it automatically displays (despite our efforts to change it!).
