Recycling Bins, Dumpsters and Roll-Off Debris Boxes

Composting QuickLinks

Recycling and waste are collected in various types of bins. Use the links below to view pictures, specifications and guidelines to the types of bins we use on campus.

Recycling Bins

We use a 16 gallon Rubbermaid Slim Jim, 35, 64, and 96 gallon gray or green wheeled carts for the collection of paper and plastics, metal and glass containers. These bins are emptied into a side-loading, split body truck (one side for paper and one side for plastics, metal, and glass containers). The material is brought back to our yard at 339 Bonair and sorted, and then sent to companies that use the material to make a new product.

Food and Compostables Bins

We use a 64 gallon brown wheeled cart for the collection of food and compostable materials. In areas, where there is a large amount of material, we also use a frontloader dumpster with a compostable label on it. These bins are emptied into our Organics collection truck and hauled to an off-campus compost facility.

Public Recycling, Composting, and Trash Bins

The campus standard for public trash receptacles is the 36 gallon Victor Stanley model #S-42 with 3/8 inch black powder-coated stell bars. These bins have a hard internal liner for ease of emptying and can be attached to the ground.

The campus standard for public recycling receptacles is the 36 gallon Victor Stanley model #SD-42 with a side opening door, 3/8 inch black powder -coated steel bars, blue "RECYCLE" around the top. This bin features multi-use lids and dual interior liners so that paper and plastics, metal, and glass containers can be collected in the same bin, but separate compartments.

The campus standard for public compost receptacles is being developed and will be similar to the public recycling receptacles.

Contact the UA/CPD Office to order these bins. Once installed, contact PSSI to begin service.

Public Waste Bins

Dumpsters

PSSI has one to eight cubic yard dumpsters for scheduled pick up service and one time events. These bins are emptied by our frontloader trucks. They come in many styles: counterbalance, loading dock, etc. and can be used for general garbage or source separated recyclables, such as corrugated cardboard. They can come with wheels or no wheels. The black dumpsters are generally used for garbage or compostables. Green dumpsters are used to collect corrugated cardboard. Please review the pictures and guidelines for use of the dumpster.

Cardboard Dumpsters

These are the same as above but they are painted green.

Roll-off/Debris Boxes

We stock 4 sizes of Roll-Off Boxes. The 15, 20, 30 cubic yard boxes come in short and tall sizes. These boxes are serviced by our Roll-off Trucks and need a certain amount of dedicated space to drop-off and pick up.
