Mahmoud propels Louisville over Siena 86-60

Anas Mahmoud stuffed the stat sheet -- and stuffed Siena over and over and over -- with 17 points, 13 rebounds and nine blocked shots in a near-triple-double as Louisville used a big second half to put away Siena 86-60 on Wednesday night.

As an assistant, David Padgett turned Anas Mahmoud into a versatile big man with a motor. That's his protégé. And that's whom he should tag as the motivational leader this program needs. Proved he deserved the role in that second-half comeback.

OK, Louisville. The Cardinals are playing with more energy in the second half. Good sign for young coach David Padgett. The talent is not the issue. Can Padgett turn this group into a more cohesive and confident unit before ACC play? That's the question.

Dangerous situation for Louisville right now. The Cardinals have lost two in a row. Siena entered this game ranked 278th on KenPom.com with a 2-5 record and zero wins against a top-100 team. But the Saints have matched Louisville on both ends and secured 50 percent of their missed shots. This is where David Padgett has to prove he's a motivator.

This balcony over Louisville's on-campus practice court connects to the head coach's office. While Rick Pitino would sometimes watch from upstairs, David Padgett says he likes to always be on the floor during practice, where he always was as an assistant. His Cardinals host Siena tonight at 7ET on ESPN2.

Seton Hall's Rodriguez banks in layup for the win (0:27)

Desi Rodriguez is a brutal matchup for most defenders. Seton Hall just gave him the ball at the top of the key and let him go to work. 29 points and the game-winner against Louisville.

Louisville and Purdue are coming down to the wire in West Lafayette. The Cardinals' V.J. King leads all scorers with 16, but Vincent Edwards has been big for the Boilermakers on a night when Matt Painter's team is just 4-of-21 from beyond the arc.

Louisville's playing its first true road game of the season at Purdue, and the Cardinals are getting a taste of what that might be like for a program that made offseason headlines for all the wrong reasons.
