Red Sox 9, Rays 0: Chris Sale barely broke a sweat. Working on an extra day of rest and staked to an eight-run lead in the second inning, Sale cruised to his league-leading 16th victory on Saturday night at Fenway Park. Dustin Pedroia's two-run homer started the Red Sox on their way. Andrew Benintendi finished with three hits, while Eduardo Nunez, Xander Bogaerts, Pedroia, Mitch Moreland and Rafael Devers had two hits apiece.

The Cubs lost 15-2 to the Brewers on Saturday allowing them to pull within 3 games of first place. Nothing went right beginning with Mike Montgomery's command. He walked 4 and was pulled in the third though reliever Justin Grimm fared no better as the Brewers scored 8 times in the inning. Once again the Cubs offense was nowhere to be found, nearly getting shutout for a second straight day. Kyle Schwarber's 25th home run came in the eighth inning, well after the game was decided, on a dreadful afternoon for the home team.

The Cubs 14 run deficit is the most they've trailed in a game since June 27, 2012. They lost that game to the Mets, 17-1.

Xander Bogaerts is 2-for-17 with two walks since his 3-game breather last week. "You see some good swings, you see some good balance, you see him addressing pitches that are in the strike zone, then you'll see at-bats where he'll come out of the strike zone," Red Sox manager John Farrell said. "Doing what we can to gain a little momentum offensively."

Family members of Red Sox catcher Sandy Leon, asst. hitting coach Victor Rodriguez and bullpen catcher Mani Martinez are still in Fort Myers. They plan to take shelter from Hurricane Irma at JetBlue Park, the Sox's spring-training facility, which is also being used as a headquarters for first responders, according to manager John Farrell.

The Brewers scored eight runs against the Cubs in the third inning after averaging just 3.6 runs PER GAME since the all star break, least in all of baseball. They chased Mike Montgomery who walked 4 batters in 2+ innings then got to Justin Grimm who surrendered three hits, a walk and even balked in a run. The eight runs given up were the second most in an inning for the Cubs this season.

After David Price's next sim game, likely in 4-5 days, Red Sox will discuss his role. Will he have enough time to build arm strength to start? He threw two 16-pitch innings here today; threw all four of his pitches. John Farrell labeled it a "productive" day for Price.

Francisco Lindor homered today as Cleveland extended its winning streak to 17 games with a 4-2 victory over Baltimore. It was Lindor's 28th homer and tied him with Hanley Ramirez for the third most in a season by a shortstop before age 24. Only Alex Rodriguez -- with single-season homer outputs of 36 and 42 -- exceeded that total before turning 24.

Seventeen in a row for the Indians! It's the 12th streak of at least that many games since 1900, but the most impressive thing is they've outscored their opponents by 88 runs in this stretch -- the biggest run differential for any team over 17 games since the Angels had a plus-89 differential in 2002. Oh, that's the year they won the World Series.

David Price, recovering from an elbow injury, is in the second inning of a simulated game at Fenway Park. The Red Sox are still hopeful that Price will be able to make a few starts before the end of the regular season.
