Personal bio
I am a social demographer who studies marriage, family, and changes in the family system over time. I hold a BA in Mathematics from Brown University (1989), an MA in Latin American Studies from the University of Chicago (1991), and a PhD in Sociology from the University of Chicago (2000). I am the author of many articles and the book The Age of Independence: Interracial Unions, Same-Sex Unions, and the Changing American Family (Harvard University Press, 2007). Currently teaching
