Removing the enrollment hold

Immigration law requires that this university verify a student's initial physical arrival on-campus and current U.S. residence address.

To remove your hold, do the following:

  1. Create your current SEVIS (US) address in Axess. Update this address BEFORE attending the Maintaining Your Legal Status session (see no. 3 below).
  2. Bring the following documents TO the Maintaining Your Legal Status session:
    1. Your passport:
    2. Your I-94 information
    3. Your I-20 OR DS-2019
  3. Attend ONE of the scheduled Maintaining Your Legal Status sessions and bring the documents listed in item 2 (above) to the session. They will be examined by an I-Center staff member at that time. Please bring your Stanford ID number with you when you come to the session.

Your hold will be released within 24 hours of attending one of these sessions.

NOTE: International students with the ENR 31 enrollment hold (placed by the I-Center) will NOT be prevented from accessing their assigned housing quarters.

Stipend and registration hold
All international students are expected to create a current SEVIS (US) address and attend one of the scheduled Maintaining Your Legal Status sessions before the enrollment hold is released.
The academic calendar states that graduate students must be enrolled full-time by Sept. 10th in order for their stipends to be issued by the first day of classes. However, graduate students who enroll later for a minimum of 8 units will only experience a slight delay since stipend requests are processed three times a week.
