In December 2015 the Foundation sponsored a national symposium, Building Systems that Work for Children with Complex Health Care Needs, at which multiple experts discussed a breadth of issues related to children with medical complexity. As a follow-up the Foundation funded a supplement to Pediatrics in 2018 that highlighted some of the presentations from the symposium. This was followed by a series of discussions with the authors of the supplement articles and other experts to explore ways to improve the systems of care for children with chronic and complex health care needs.
