The following are research opportunities for Stanford undergraduates.  The department does not offer any research opportunities for undergraduates who are not Stanford students.

SURIM

The Stanford Undergraduate Research Institute in Mathematics (SURIM) is a ten-week program that provides Stanford undergraduates the opportunity to work on mathematical problems in an extra-curricular context. Most students will work on interesting mathematical problems in a collaborative environment. A number will work one-on-one with faculty member. Summer funding will be provided to all participants, thanks to VPUE.

Honors Thesis

Honors Math majors research and write a senior honors thesis under the direction and guidance of one of our faculty.  Honors majors enroll in Math 197: Senior Honors Thesis with their advisor.  See our Honors in the Major page, including our Math 197 Guidelines.

Math 199: Independent Work

Undergraduates enrolled in Math 199 pursue a reading program with a Math faculty member.  The topics are limited to those not in regular department course offerings. Credit can fulfill the elective requirement for math majors, but approval is required to use credit towards the 49 Math units and honors majors requirements.
