Latest issue of Stanford Medicine focuses on kids' health

The Spring 2010 issue of Stanford Medicine is a special report on pediatric care and research. The issue features articles on adolescent depression, treating children without hurting them, a night on the town with teenage cancer patients and more.

Three seniors and an alumna win Gates, Luce scholarships

Otis Chodosh and Allison Rhines, both Stanford seniors, were two of 29 Americans recently chosen as 2010 Gates Scholars. Rayden Llano, also a senior, and Gillian Quandt, who earned a bachelor's from Stanford in 2006 and a master's here in 2007, were two of 18 Americans recently chosen for the 2010-11 Luce Scholars Program, a nonacademic program that places individuals in internships in Asian countries.

Portola Valley approval allows community trail to be built

The community trails to be built by Stanford received further support on Wednesday evening when the Portola Valley Town Council unanimously approved a trail segment that will run along Alpine Road.

Rapping biology: 'Oxidate it or love it'

For an undergraduate course in human biology, instructor Tom McFadden has created a series of rap videos to explain concepts such as gene regulation and evolution. His latest video explains how metabolism works.

  • Small fire prompts evacuation: A small flash fire in an engineering laboratory prompted the evacuation of the Paul Allen Building for two hours Thursday afternoon. No one was injured in the incident.
  • All faculty invited: An Open Faculty Discussion of the Report on the Quality of Life of Stanford Faculty will take place Tuesday, March 2, from noon to 1:15 p.m. in the Cypress Room in Tresidder Union. A light lunch will be provided. Click here to download the full report.
