Stable Isotope Biogeochemistry Laboratory
The Stable Isotope Biogeochemistry Laboratory (SIBL) at Stanford University's School of Earth Sciences provides analytical facilities and technical expertise to members of the Stanford community who need to determine stable isotope ratios of a variety of organic and inorganic materials from both terrestrial and marine environments.
The laboratory is housed in Mitchell Building (room A01) and Green Earth Sciences Building (rooms 332 and 334) located in the Science quadrangle at Stanford University. The facility has the ability to measure C, N, O (including 17O), H, and S in plant and animal tissue, soils, minerals, and waters. Moreover, by the use of infrared lasers and micro-drill techniques we will have the capability of high-spatial resolution isotopic measurements. Presently SIBL has four mass spectrometers, two in Mitchell and two in Green. SIBL is overseen by Co-directors Professor Robert Dunbar and Professor C. Page Chamberlain of the Department of Geological and Environmental Sciences. Operation and management of the laboratory is the responsibility of science staff members Dave Mucciarone and Peter Blisniuk. For access to the laboratory please contact one of these laboratory managers.
