For London folks, you can see it at @V_and_A's new show on AI. The map is printed on a *big* wall, and there's a limited edition newspaper with the essay you can take home with you pic.twitter.com/vqOmkKlYbg

congrats! if this is the map as it is today, would love to consider the AI geology stack that should be (stack to come) as a design problem. No one correct answer, but the differing visions would be instructive..
-
cheers! And yes to multiple visions/versions. This one focuses on 'how can we begin to see' - given complexity, secrecy, timescales. Then there's a normative question of 'how should the next be made.' A design problem indeed!

Can't help being reminded of this tho...pic.twitter.com/pJB9JPvZ20

Did Trevor’s tweet disappear? Call it modeling then. Just mean that the present reality mapped here is not the only socio-geology of AI that can be. There are other discontinuous megastructures that can enable AI/ which constitute different means/ modes of production.
-
This map is one of the unlimited number of the possible different readings of that complexity. As any other map, this is a reduction and simplification. One possible narrative. It does not pretend to be the only one. Just one possible path.

Yes! There is a link at the bottom of the first page that takes you to a full-scale PDF of the map

Thank you! Phenomenal detail and visual display w/in the map. The inner geek in me is so craving a pdf of the essay too, but I can print and write notes from the online version. What an epic analysis from so many critical perspectives. This is so important to share. Thanks again!

Ok, I read it! I was bummed out by the IBM news today and now I am invigorated to work even harder on tech and ethics issues. Vast and systemic is not unsolvable. Once a thing is mapped it can be navigated- even a Gordian knot with a billion dragon heads.

I have also being trying to conceptually frame for a while with AVs &AIAs. I argue the mesh of ontological relations between design, machine decision capacity & human impacts require modeling/mapping in many ways especially in terms of risk, ethics & law.
