You may have heard that at other schools, housing assignments for new students is handled through a separate housing application process. At Stanford, housing assignments for new students (incoming freshmen and transfers) are handled as part of the Approaching Stanford Forms.
As all first year students are required to live on campus, technically you are not applying for housing since it is required; rather, you’re providing your preferences for your first year housing assignment among the options available to you via the Approaching Stanford Forms.
Everything that you need to know in order to fill out the Approaching Stanford Forms is explained in the Approaching Stanford Handbook, which will be mailed to you and available online beginning May 13.
BTW, you may find a link on Axess to apply for housing, but note that this applies only to current/returning students, not for incoming freshmen and transfers.
More information about living on campus is covered in the “Approaching Life on the Farm” section of the Approaching Stanford Handbook.
The Student Housing website also features information for freshman and transfer students.
