Opening Celebration at California Historical Society
The California Historical Society celebrates the opening of its exhibition, Curating the Bay. In 2013, a year that is bringing the opening of a new Bay Bridge span, the high-profile America’s Cup yacht races, and the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Port of San Francisco, the Society is staging an experimental exhibition of many items from its collections not publicly exhibited before. Curating the Bay is curated by Jon Christensen, a CHS scholar-in-residence, adjunct assistant professor at UCLA, and former Executive Director of the Bill Lane Center.

The poet Gary Snyder rose out of the Beat Generation to become "the poet laureate of deep ecology," writing epic-length works like Mountains and Rivers Without End (1997) and the Pulitzer Prize-winning Turtle Island (1975).
