Hello and Welcome
• Global Initiative Partner since 2004
• Estimated Global Methane Emissions in 2005: 46.23 MMTCO2E

The United Kingdom is a Global Methane Initiative charter member with projects in all four Global Methane Initiative sectors. Its efforts in the coal mine and agriculture sectors include a domestic anaerobic digestion implementation plan and technical support to facilitate coal mine methane project development in Russia and China. In the landfill sector, innovative financial instruments and a strong regulatory framework are achieving significant methane reductions while generating generating substantial amounts of power: the 11 largest sites each have between 8 megawatts and 20 megawatts installed. The United Kingdom is an active member of three subcommittees (Coal Mines, Landfills, and Oil and Gas), and a member of the Steering Committee.
