Ergonomic equipment / accessories

May not be appropriate for all people

Used in conjunction with proper work practices can help minimize discomfort in the workplace

Item Appropriate Use
Adjustable Keyboard Mouse Tray
  • When desktop is too high for appropriate keyboard/ mouse placement
  • When more distance from monitor is needed
Sliding Keyboard Drawer
  • When more distance from monitor is needed (may be a solution where desktops are both low and have shallow depths)
Mouse Deck
  • When there is no room for mouse at proper work surface level
  • When the mouse must be closer to user

* (Only feasible for those who do not regularly use the numeric keypad)

Monitor Riser(s) or Arm
  • When monitor needs to be raised
Footrest
  • When feet are not comfortably planted flat on floor and it is inconvenient to adjust seat height
Document Holder
  • When working from reference documents
Slantboard
  • When performing large levels of document review or writing
Glare Hood
  • When overhead lighting causes glare onto the screen
Seatback Cushion
  • When everything on your existing chair is fine except the low-back support
Wristrest
  • To provide a soft surface to rest hands while NOT keyboarding.
Trackball (Kensington-type)
  • For those with high levels of mouse use and high repetition click and click/ drag tasks
  • For those with very limited space beside their keyboards
Split Keyboard
  • For larger computer users and for those who have difficulty in hand pronation (palms toward ground/ back of hands facing up)

* Individuals with previous injury involving fingers, hands, wrists, arms, or shoulders will want their physicians or physical therapists to approve of any keyboard changes.
