Name: A-lan Holt Major: CSRE Thesis Title: 8BALL | Towards a Politic of Impossibility Thesis Abstract 8ball is a moving meditiation on community and love during the 1980's looking specifically at the lives of five characters during what President Reagan deemed thecrack cocaine epidemic. The people are a young couple moving into the neighborhood and an older couple who refuse to move out. The lives of these characters work concentrically through their ability and inability to move: move product, move people, move outside of their present realities, move outside of themselves. The play presents anuanced and intimate portrait of the lives of community members during our nation's war on drugs. I am interested further in the ways in which art might reveal new, and perhaps more generative renderings of the lived experiences of people most effected by the drug. ← Back to Thesis Repository |
