Emilia DeMarchis is the recipient of the
2014 Yang Chiao Wang Award
for Excellence and Leadership in Family Medicine
Congratulations to Emilia DeMarchis, this year’s Wang Award recipient. In memory of Mrs. Yang Chiao Wang, this award is to be given to graduating medical students demonstrating extraordinary leadership and pursuing a career in Family Medicine. Mrs. Wang strongly believed in the unique care provided by Stanford's family physicians, and entrusted the health of several generations of her family to them. Her family's wish is that the brightest medical students be encouraged to take up this specialty, which is so important to the nation's health. Emilia has demonstrated tremendous creativity, tenacity and humanism in her exploration of Family Medicine as a career. She has led the FM interest group, researched factors that influence students’ choice to pursue FM, and created her own elective rotation in which she explored Family Medicine innovations at 11 sites around the SF Bay Area. In March she presented this work as a poster at WGEA in Honolulu. She matched at UCSF’s Family Medicine residency.
