Stanford to host renowned Taiwanese author Pai Hsien-yung

Stanford University will host two lectures by the renowned scholar and author Pai Hsien-yung on 10/24 and 10/25.  A documentary on Prof. Pai's life and scholarship will be screened at the East Asia Library on the evening of 10/23.

Kari Simonsen

New Ordering Specialist at Acquisitions Department

Acquisitions Department is pleased to welcome Kari Simonsen as the new Ordering Specialist.

Kari will initially be responsible for ordering resources in the subject areas of Germanic Studies and Medieval Studies. She will be assigned additional ones in the future.

Kari has recently worked at C.V. Starr East Asian Library at UC Berkeley as an administrative assistant and Aunt Lute Books as an editor/marketing associate. In her previous roles, she was also involved with graphic and UX design.

Warm welcome to Laura Wilsey who joins our team in October

I am very pleased to announce the hire of Laura Wilsey as our new Cataloging and Metadata Librarian for incoming collections. She will work primarily out of our Stanford Redwood City but will travel to campus as needed as she takes over responsibility for managing metadata for our many complex digitization projects in collaboration with staff from the Metadata Development Unit and DLSS, as well as curators and subject specialists.

Branner Library welcomes Andria Olson, Assistant Map Librarian

Please join me in welcoming the newest addition to the Branner Earth Sciences Library and Map Collections family, Andria Olson.  Andria will join us on October 1st as the Assistant Map Librarian.  Andria graduated from the Defense Language Institute with a specialization in Persian-Farsi.  She received her BA in Art History from Arizona State University and will complete her Library & Information Science Master's in Historical Materials from Syracuse University in December 2018.  Andria has been employed as a Library Information Specialist at the Ronald Greeley Center for Planetary Stud

East Asia Library

East Asia Library acquires several large new Western-language databases

The East Asia Library has recently purchased several important database collections of Western-language historical materials that are now available for Stanford users to access.  These databases include documents digitized from collections held at the British Library, the Second Historical Archives of China, and a number of other libraries and archives.
