Release: 11/12/2015

The TBT feature for this week is Lindsay Logan (’04), formerly Lindsay Wing, one of Stanford’s most successful gymnasts. Prior to Stanford, she competed as a member of the U.S. National team for four years. In her four years at Stanford, she earned four Pac-10 beam titles and helped lead the team to its first top-three finish at the NCAA Super Six Finals.

What did you major in at Stanford?
I majored in human biology with a focus on children in society, and then went on to complete a masters degree in education with a focus on social sciences.

What were your favorite things to do at Stanford?
I loved going to sporting events and cheering on fellow student-athletes - sitting in the Sixth Man Club section at men's basketball games was always so much fun! Being in the Bay Area, there was always so much to explore. I enjoyed getting out to The Dish, hitting the beach in Santa Cruz and going up to San Francisco when we had time off.

What was the most challenging aspect of Stanford? The most rewarding?
Whether it's on-campus events, internships, guest lecturers, etc. - Stanford offers so many opportunities. For me, one of the most challenging aspects of being a student-athlete was deciding which opportunities to prioritize and managing my time so that I could experience things that interested me.

As far as the most rewarding aspect of Stanford, I'd say it's the people you meet. There are so many talented, interesting, and genuine people at Stanford, all with unique perspectives. I learned so much from my teammates, coaches, classmates, and acquaintances - I also made some lifelong friends along the way.

Favorite SWG memory?
Super Six my senior year. We had struggled a bit with consistency earlier that season, but we really came together as a team in the final meets of the season. During the Super Six competition, you could feel the momentum building with each routine, and when you were the one out on the floor, the energy you felt from your teammates was indescribable. As a team, we had our best performance of the year on the last day of the year. And as a graduating senior, there was no better way to finish my gymnastics career.

What piece of advice would you give SWG 2016?
Be present. It may sound cliche to say that your time at Stanford will go by fast, but it's true! Experience as much of what Stanford has to offer as possible, and put yourself in the way of opportunities that interest you. As far as your time in the gym, let yourself enjoy it! It's a special kind of feeling when you hit every handstand, add a new skill, or stick your landing - all with your teammates cheering for you. Soak up every minute of the journey.

What are you up to now?
My husband, Patrick, and I will be celebrating our fourth wedding anniversary next month! We live in San Francisco with our french bulldog, Jimmy McNulty.

I've been working at Twitter for the last four-plus years, and lead the global content and creative team for our small business segment. I'm also a volunteer and member of the Volunteer Support and Engagement Team (VEST) at 826 Valencia, which is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping under-resourced youth with creative and expository writing.

I've also taken up running, and just finished my third half-marathon at the Nike Women's event in San Francisco.
