STANFORD, Calif. – The Stanford sailing team had excellent finishes in three separate events across the country this past weekend, including a win at the North Gold Regatta in Redwood City, California.

With four boats in the field, Stanford swept the podium and took four of the top five spots to win the event. Reinier Eenkema van Dijk skippered the winning boat with Kennedy Placek serving as crew.

The all-freshman boat of Mimi El-Khazindar, Maggie Schult and Russell Clarida took second place, with Schult and Clarida splitting crew duties. Skipper Julia Lambert and crew Cassie Obel took third, while Elena VandenBerg and Meg Gerli were not far behind in fifth.

At the St. Mary’s Women’s Interconference in St. Mary’s City, Maryland, skipper Martina Sly and crew Yuki Yoshiyasu led the way with a third-place finish in the B-division, helping Stanford take fourth place in a strong field. Skipper Maeve White and crew Kathryn Booker took 12th in the A-division.

Perhaps the most impressive showing was Stanford’s third-place finish at the Graham Hall Team Race in Annapolis, Maryland, behind top-ranked Georgetown and defending national champion Yale.

Axel Sly, Antoine Screve and Will La Dow were skippers, while J.P. Cannistraro, Sammy Steele and Grace Lucas crewed Stanford’s boats.

Stanford returns to action this weekend, competing in the Admiral Moore Team Race in Bronx, N.Y., and the Friis Trophy Team Race in New London, Connecticut. Live results will be available at CollegeSailing.org.
