Sailing Starts Strong

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – The Stanford sailing team set sail on its busy spring schedule with first and third-place finishes at the Jeremy McIntyre Team Race.

The Cardinal’s A-team won all nine races it sailed, including four 1-2-3 sweeps in the team racing format. The A-division squad was skippered by sophomore Luke Muller, freshman William Marshall, senior Axel Sly and junior Reinier Eenkema van Dijk.

Crews for the A-division included freshmen Cassie Obel and Maggie Schult, junior J.P. Cannistraro and sophomore Kennedy Placek.

Stanford’s B-division finished third with a 7-2 record, dropping its only races to the victories Cardinal A-squad and second-place UC Santa Barbara. The B-team was skippered by juniors Maeve White and Lily Katz and freshman Martina Sly.

Stanford’s crews for the B-division included senior Yuki Yoshiyasu, sophomore Elena VandenBerg and freshman Kathryn Booker.

The Cardinal is back in action this weekend, travelling to Charleston, South Carolina, to compete in the Bob Bavier Team Race. Live results will be available at CollegeSailing.org.
