STANFORD, Calif. - Senior Krista Hardebeck has been named the Pac-12 Women’s Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year, as announced by the Conference office on Wednesday.
The award, which is presented in each of the 23 sports the Pac-12 sponsors, was established to honor student-athletes that are standouts both academically and in their sports discipline. USC’s Max de Vroome was the recipient for men’s tennis.
Hardebeck is Stanford’s first Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year honoree since Lindsay Burdette in 2010.

A double major (Political Science, Psychology) carrying a 3.80 cumulative GPA, Hardebeck was a member of two NCAA championship teams (2013, 2016) during her time on The Farm. The Santa Ana, California, native recently concluded arguably the best season of her career, providing the Cardinal with veteran leadership as a team captain despite playing at the No. 4 position.
Hardebeck is a three-time Pac-12 All-Academic selection, named to the first team in each of the last two seasons after garnering honorable mention status as a sophomore. Earlier this season, Hardebeck was tabbed a CoSIDA Women’s At-Large Academic All-District pick.
Voted an All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention selection, Hardebeck ranked second on the team in overall victories (27-8) while finishing 21-3 in duals, including a 10-2 record at the No. 4 spot. Hardebeck, who provided the clinching point in three matches, also produced a career-high 17-match winning streak that spanned nearly two months. Finishing the season with a No. 123 final singles ranking, she compiled a 12-1 record against conference opponents and was unbeaten in nine Pac-12 dual matches.
In doubles, Hardebeck paired with freshman Caroline Lampl to finish 20-10 overall and 13-5 in duals as Stanford’s No. 3 duo.
Hardebeck opted not to play tennis last summer, as she was completing an internship in Uganda at the Citizen’s Coalition for Electoral Democracy in Uganda (CCEDU).
In order to be eligible for the Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, student-athletes must be a senior (in athletics eligibility) on track to receive a degree, have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher, participate in at least 50 percent of the scheduled contests in the sport and have a minimum of one year in residence at the institution. Each Pac-12 institution may nominate one individual per sport, and the winners are selected by a committee of Pac-12 staff members at the conclusion of each sport’s regular season. The athletic accomplishments of the nominees are a consideration in the voting for the award.
