San José City Council Member Johnny Khamis serves on the VTA Board of Directors representing City Group 1 (City of the San José). He is a member of VTA’s Transit Planning & Operations Committee, serving as chairperson for 2016, after having served as chairperson for the latter portion of 2015 and as vice chairperson for 2014. He also serves on  both the Governance & Audit Committee and the County Expressways Policy Advisory Committee.

Director Khamis was appointed to the VTA Board of Directors in 2013 as an alternate member representing City Group 2. In 2014, the City of the San José appointed him as a member of the Board of Directors, where he continues to serve.

Director Member Khamis serves on the San José City Council representing San José’s Council District 10 (Almaden/Blossom Hill areas). He was elected to the city council in 2012.

Prior public and civic service includes serving on the Santa Clara County Human Relations Commission and the San Jose Small Business Development Commission, both of which he served as chairperson. Director Khamis is also a long-time volunteer for Almaden Cares, the Almaden Kiwanis, the Boy Scouts, and the Martin Fontana Parks Association.

Director Khamis has lived in San José since early childhood and was educated there. He graduated from San Jose State University with a degree in Business Management and Communication. He has been an active member of the business community in the City of San Jose for over 20 years, including as CEO of the company he founded, Western Benefit Solutions. He also was a financial advisor and personally managed over 200 individual and business accounts.
