Santa Clara County Supervisor Ken Yeager serves on the VTA Board of Directors representing Group 6 (County of Santa Clara), having done so since late 2010. 

Director Yeager serves on the Transit Planning and Operations Committee, and is that committee’s vice chairperson for 2016. He also serves on the SVRT Corridor/BART Warm Springs Extension Policy Advisory Board (PAB), and the Silicon Valley Rapid Transit (SVRT) Program Working Committee, having previously served as that committee’s chairperson for three years. Additionally, Director Yeager serves on the Peninsula Corridor (Caltrain) Joint Powers Board, and was that body’s chairperson for 2013.

Director Yeager served as chairperson of the VTA Board of Directors for 2012 and as vice chairperson during 2011. Prior to his appointment to the Board of Directors to represent the County, he served on the VTA Board as an ex-officio member representing the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) from 2007-2010. In addition, he served from 2001-2006 as a Board alternate member representing City Group 1 (City of San José).

Director Yeager serves on the County of Santa Clara Board of Supervisors. First elected to the Board of Supervisors in June 2006 and re-elected in 2010 and 2014, he represents Supervisorial District 4, which includes the cities of Campbell and Santa Clara, as well as West San José and the Burbank and Cambrian neighborhoods of San José. He currently represents the County on VTA’s El Camino Real Rapid Transit PAB and serves as that body’s vice chairperson for 2016.

Director Yeager previously served as an MTC commissioner, as the governor’s appointee to the California Air Resources Board (ARB) representing the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD), and as an alternate to the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) Executive Board. 

Prior public and community service includes six years on the San José City Council, elected first in 2000 and again in 2004. Prior to that, he served two terms as a Trustee of the San Jose Evergreen Community College District, from 1992-2000.

Director Yeager earned a B.A. in political science from San José State University (SJSU) and an M.A. in sociology and a Ph.D. in education from Stanford University. Prior to his public service career, he taught full time in the Political Science Department at SJSU for 12 years where he continues to teach an occasional course.
