Vilsa Curto

Economics

Vilsa Curto is a PhD student in the Department of Economics. Her research focuses on health care and health insurance markets. In her dissertation, she examines regulations in Medicare supplemental insurance that prohibit insurers from rejecting or charging higher premiums to consumers with pre-existing health conditions. She measures the impact of these regulations on insurance coverage and premiums. She has also studied the potential for private managed care to bring efficiency gains to Medicare, as well as how Medicaid expansions under the Affordable Care Act have affected enrollment and program spending. She holds an A.B. in Mathematics from Harvard University.
