Sustainability Tours

Stanford Campus Tours

Stanford's online sustainability tour provides an overview of sustainability efforts across campus and can be accessed from your computer or mobile device.

In addition to the online tour, the Office of Sustainability offers a campus sustainability bus tour at major university events throughout the year. Aboard one of the new electric Marguerite shuttles, participants travel to venues where campus operations feature sustainable practices in action. Staff members provide presentations both on the bus and on-site at select stops. Topics include water, waste and recycling, transportation demand management, energy, sustainable landscaping, and a version of one of our high performance building tours. While these tours are offered for special occasions only, a shorter version of the tour can also be arranged upon request. We kindly request at least one month's notice and require a minimum of 30 participants. To request a campus sustainability tour, please contact Meghan Kearns in the Office of Sustainability.

Y2E2 Tours (Science & Engineering Quad)

Since its inauguration in March 2008, the Jerry Yang and Akiko Yamazaki Environment and Energy Building (Y2E2) has been a popular tour site for students, researchers, corporate executives, and donors. The first building completed in the four-building Science & Engineering Quad (SEQ), Y2E2 continues to exemplify the benefits of high-performance design. Y2E2 launched Stanford into a new era of building design and operation, paving the way for almost one million square feet of new construction inspired directly by its proven success. Docent-led tours detailing the history, design, and function of Y2E2 are available upon request.

Knight Management Center

The Knight Management Center (KMC), an eight-building, 360,000 square-foot complex for the Stanford Graduate School of Business, earned a LEED-NC Platinum® rating from the US Green Building Council – the organization’s highest certification level. The project received 60 points, far above the 52-point threshold for Platinum. The design of the new facility underscores what is taught in many GSB electives, such as Environmental Entrepreneurship and Environmental Science for Managers and Policy Makers, as well as in core classes covering sustainability across business functions and the MBA/MS Environment and Resources joint degree program. A docent-led tour program is in development at this time.
