Biography

Matthew Bonds's research explores relationships among ecology, infectious diseases and economic development, with an applied focus on the role of health conditions on economic growth in areas of extreme poverty. Bonds is expanding his research effort in economically important biophysical systems such as agriculture, fisheries, nutrition and land-use change. His work serves as a foundation for deeper explorations of how fundamental ecological processes influence structural poverty and economic development, and is aimed at informing policy interventions for public health and development. Bonds is a Senior Fellow at the Center for Innovation in Global Health, an Assistant Professor of Global Health and Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School, and co-founder and Co-CEO of PIVOT, a health delivery and research initiative in Madagascar.  Bonds did a postdoctoral fellowship at the Earth Institute at Columbia University. He has a Ph.D. in economics and a Ph.D. in ecology from the University of Georgia
