Mattie Taormina, SUL’s long-time head of public services in Special Collections and, most recently, Librarian for Instruction and Outreach, is leaving SUL to pursue a great new stage in her career. Beginning March 2, 2016, Mattie will be the Director of the Sutro Library in San Francisco.

Since coming to SUL in 2006, Mattie has had great success in promoting Special Collections here at Stanford and in promoting SUL’s Special Collections nationally. 

She was instrumental in bringing the Sanborn Maps as well as other collections to SUL. Mattie drew students and faculty to Special Collections using innovative instruction programs to integrate documents and other archival artifacts into the curriculum of PWR and other courses.  In her efforts to extend SUL’s presence more broadly, Mattie currently serves as Vice President and President Elect of the Society of California Archivists. 

We will miss Mattie and her commitment to spreading the reach of Special Collections across the Stanford campus.
