I got a bike ticket! What do I do?
If your citation is less than 30 days old and you have not previously been issued a citation within the last 18 months, you may attend a Bike Safety class in lieu of appearing in court.
SUDPS forwards all bike citations, 30 days after the date of issuance, to Superior Court (Traffic Division).
The Court, upon receipt of the citation(s), will process the citation by entering it into the Court's database.
The court will follow up with a Courtesy Notice to the violator.
It is the court's hope to have the citations processed and a court date assigned within the following 30 days after receiving the citations from SUDPS.
If you have not previously been issued a citation within the last 18 months you may attend a bike safety class in lieu of appearing in court and, possibly, being ordered to pay a fine.
This class is not mandatory, but if you choose to attend you must register and attend a bike safety class within 30 days of the date on your citation.
SUDPS does not guarantee classes will be held on a weekly basis, so it is imperative that you register as soon as possible.
See the Frequently Asked Questions section for more information.
What is a Courtesy Notice?
A Courtesy Notice is notification from the court outlining the options in response to your citation, such as a court date, fine(s), and possible future penalties.
