STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford begins its 2016 Spring season this weekend when it hosts the Jeremy McIntyre Team Race in Redwood City, California.

This Spring, the Cardinal will compete in 16 events in eight states, finishing with the ICSA National Championships May 26-June 3 in San Diego.

“This Spring the team has full focus on nationals in San Diego,” said ninth-year head coach John Vandemoer. “We will train on the Nationals venue three times before then, so we feel comfortable and confident in any condition there.”

Sophomore skipper Luke Muller, the 2015 PCCSC Men’s Singlehanded champion, shared a similar sentiment about ending the season in familiar waters.

“We know what sailing in San Diego for Nationals is going to be like,” said Muller, who finished sixth at the ICSA Men’s Singlehanded nationals in November. “We have been looking at our weaknesses from the fall and are emphasizing not repeating those errors. If we keep up the hard work and focus on the process, good things will come this Spring.”

Following this weekend, the Cardinal heads to Charleston, South Carolina, to compete in the Bob Bavier Team Race. Stanford will then compete in five competitions in four cities Mar. 19-20, including the Bryson Women’s Regatta and Gold/Silver Regatta in Redwood City, the Graham Hall Team Race in Annapolis, Maryland, the Laser Midwinters West Regatta in Long Beach, California, and the St. Mary’s Women’s Interconference in St. Mary’s City, Maryland.

“We’re excited to start racing again and show the other teams what we’ve got,” said Lily Katz, Stanford’s first-choice A-class women’s skipper. “I think we had a promising Fall and have been working really hard this Winter to continue to step up our game.”

Live results for all Spring events will be available at CollegeSailing.org.
