We have formulated a number of useful resources for graduate students, to supplement the mentoring you will receive from your advisor and other faculty members, the Director of Graduate Studies, the Graduate Placement Officer(s), and the graduate-student-led Pedagogy Committee.
The Stanford English department offered a lively and supportive community that prepared me for an academic career as a scholar, teacher, and colleague. From first-year seminars to sixth-year dissertation advising, professors generously and judiciously critiqued my arguments, methodology, and writing. As a Teaching Assistant, Instructor in PWR, Tutor at the Hume Writing Center Tutor, and mentor to English honors students, I gained teaching experience that will be transferable to a range of institutions. And in workshops, study sessions, essay exchanges, as well as over many burritos and peanuts and coffees, my fellow grad students showed me the joy and education of academic friendship.
