Lab News

March 2015

The Wang Lab was awarded funding from the Women & Sex Differences in Medicine (WSDM) Center. The WSDM seed grant is designed to promote research on sex differences across a variety of disciplines.

Stefanie Morgan was recently awarded the 2015 National Defense Science & Engineering Graduate (NDSEG) Fellowship. This prestigious 3-year fellowship is awarded to 200 US doctoral students annually for advanced training in science and engineering.

  • Andrew Spencley was accepted into Ph.D. programs at UC San Diego and Ohio State University, as well as the Cancer Biology Ph.D. program at Stanford University. Congratulations Andrew!

January 2015

  • Yunhai Luo arrived in the lab as a postdoctoral fellow from Cornell.  Welcome Yunhai!

August 2014

  • Natasha Mariano joined the lab as research technician from Bridgewater State University. Welcome Natasha!

Research in the Wang Lab

OUR FOCUS

The Wang lab takes an interdisciplinary approach to studying fundamental mechanisms controlling gene expression in mammalian cells, and how epigenetic mechanisms such as DNA methylation, chromatin modifications, and RNA influence chromatin dynamics to affect gene regulation.

Our lab is interested in:

  1. how various dynamic epigenetic changes in chromatin structure impact gene expression during stem cell pluripotency/self-renewal, cellular differentiation, and reprogramming
  2. epigenetic mechanisms of the pruritus (itch) circuitry
  3. how three-dimensional chromosomal structure and dysregulation contribute to development of diseases such as aging and cancer.

The long-term goal of the lab is to translate our understanding of these complex mechanisms to studies of human diseases.

We believe the greatest scientific discoveries occur only when individuals dare to take risks.

Stanford Medicine is uniquely poised to lead the biomedical revolution and secure its promise for future generations. As an academic medical center with close ties to Stanford University and Silicon Valley, Stanford Medicine merges research with health-care expertise to drive creative thinking and innovation.
